Earth in Hackney mark the 30th Anniversary of Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh.

Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh (1993)
“Choose us. Choose life. Choose mortgage payments; choose washing machines; choose cars; choose sitting oan a couch watching mind-numbing and spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fuckin junk food intae yir mooth. Choose rotting away, pishing and shiteing yersel in a home, a total fuckin embarrassment tae the selfish, fucked-up brats ye’ve produced. Choose life.”

30 years ago, Irvine Welsh‘s debut novel “Trainspotting” hit the book shelves and things were never the same again.  Having now spawned a prequel, a sequel, 2 landmark films directed by Danny Boyle, a stage show and with a musical in the works; Trainspotting has become a much loved and internationally recognised cultural classic.

This October, the novel will be reissued by publishers Penguin Random House and to celebrate the anniversary, we’ve organised a special event at Earth in Hackney, London on the 19th Oct, with Irvine in conversation with good friend and equally respected Scottish author John Niven (Kill Your Friends).
